Victoria Flick’s Friends Foundation is a tax exempt, non-profit corporate foundation established in memory of Victoria Catherine Flick, born June 3,1997. As a result of complications during birth, Victoria was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.
Families of special needs children quickly learn the pros and cons of medical insurance coverage. We rely on our resources to aid our children for their medical and developmental needs.
“Thank God we have insurance” was one phrase I clearly remember reciting shortly after the birth of Victoria. However, this assumption was quickly replaced with many arguments, denials, and grievance appeals toward our insurance carrier. We were very fortunate to provide our daughter with all she needed, and never took it for granted. We never forgot the tears that overwhelmed us, the uncertainty that surrounded us, and the organizations that gave us hope again.
Victoria Flick’s Friends Foundation was established to help special needs children obtain the durable medical equipment necessary to fit the needs of the child when all other resources are exhausted.
Examples of such durable medical equipment consists of, but is not limited to:
- 1. Stander (aids the child to learn to bear weight, stand)
- 2. Switch Toys (for children who are unable to activate a toy independently)
- 3. Communication Devices (aids the child to speak, communicate, acts as a voice)
- 4. Swimming Floats (aids the child to swim)
- 5. Specially Equipped Car Seats (special needs children out grow store bought car seats)
- 6. Specially Equipped Bicycle
- 7. Bath Chairs
Victoria was a beautiful, happy, loving little angel. To just walk by her, was to stop and marvel at her amazing blue eyes, genuine smile, and of course her infectious laugh! We shared our beautiful angel with everyone. Now, we want to share her goodness with all of her friends – children with disabilities.
Our family would like to give special children the opportunity to have a walker, even ride a bike!
Having these apparatus’s is the result of Victoria’s opportunity to be independent, and to feel included. In order to give these wonderful achievements for the children to accomplish, and enjoy their quality of life, we need the support of everyone.
